Looks like there is a big storm headed our way, so I'm going to sneak these in here, and then do a few fun things like check all the batteries in the flashlights. Also, I know this is holiday cookie season, and perhaps these beauties aren't altogether appropriate - but I can't help but share them with you. They're buttery whole wheat shortbreads fragrant with rosewater, flecked with toasted nuts, and dried rose petals. They have a crunchy dusting of sugar on top that provides a satisfying, sweet tongue scratch, and are punctuated with black sesame. I'm not even going to lie - it took a few attempts to nail them down. As many of you know - dealing with floral flavors can be a bit tricky. But the idea for them developed as I was attempting tiny cookies to bring to a friend's house who was cooking an impressive Ottolenghi-inspired feast. I was tasked with dessert, and thought these would be a pretty finish.

This trick with florals is figuring out how much is too much, and how little is too little. The first couple of attempts I used dried rose petals only, and a good amount. But the flavor got pushed around a bit, bullied and overpowered by the browning butter. So I gave the rose notes a boost by layering the petals in the dough with a splash of rose water. They dough immediately became more fragrant, balanced, and what I intended (and hoped for) from the start. I'd still suggest using a bit of caution when baking with rose water, because each bottle seems to vary in strength, quality, and scent. Strictly for reference, I'll mention that I used Nielsen-Massey Rose Water. If you're unsure about the quality or strength of your rose water, start with half, and taste the dough. You can always adjust with more from there. Trust your senses :)!

I hope to see some of you locals at the Remodelista Markethere in San Francisco this weekend. Hopefully the worst of the weather will have moved through by then.

Rosewater Shortbread
As far as dried rose petals go, I typically dry my own from unsprayed roses I buy at the farmers market. I've seen them available in Mexican grocers, and also if you search around online you can find them. Also, they're a very pretty component to these cookies, but if you had to leave them out, and rely on the rose water only, they'd still be delicious.

1 cup / 4.5 oz / 130 g unbleached all-purpose flour
Scant 1 cup / 4.5 oz / 130g whole wheat pastry flour
1/3 cup / 1 oz / 30 g lightly toasted, sliced, pecans
1 tablespoon dried rose petals, plus more for sprinkling
1 tablespoon black sesame seeds, plus more for sprinkling

1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup / 3.5 oz / 100 g sugar
scant 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
2 teaspoons rose water
large grain sugar, for sprinkling

In a medium bowl whisk together the all-purpose and whole wheat flours, pecans, rose petals, and sesame seeds. Set aside.

In a separate medium bowl, or in the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter with the sugar, salt and rosewater, until smooth and creamy, about a minute. Add the flour mixture and mix until barely combined. Scrape the dough into a ball, and if you feel like it needs to come together a bit more, knead it once or twice on the counter top, or until it is smooth. Shape into a round, flat patty shape wrap tightly in plastic, and refrigerate for a couple hours, or overnight.

About fifteen minutes before you're ready to stamp out your cookie shapes, remove the dough from the refrigerator. Position racks in the top and bottom thirds of the oven and preheat to 350F / 180C. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Roll the dough out 1/4-inch thick on a lightly floured counter top, and stamp into desired shapes. You can collect and roll out dough scraps as well, after your first round of stamping. If the dough gets too warm, put it back in the refrigerator for a bit. Place the cookies at least an inch apart on a prepared baking sheets, sprinkle each cookie with a combination of large-grain sugar, rose petals and sesame seeds, then chill them one last time in the freezer for another ten minutes.

Bake until the cookies are golden at the edges, 13 to 15 minutes, but watch them closely. It's more about coloring than time here. Rotate the sheets back to front about 9 minutes in. Remove from the oven and after a minute or two transfer to a baking rack to cool completely.

Store leftovers in a big jar, they keep beautifully for days. The recipe makes dozens of tiny cookies, the yield really depends on the size of your cookie cutter.

Cell phone viruses these days are as big a threat as Phishing given that how much you depend on your smart phone and the amount of data it stores. When you buy that brand new shiny phone which you had been longing for weeks or months, you don’t want the experience to be dampened by a virus lurking in the background, eating into your personal information. However, with so many varieties of smart phones and app stores, it is a reality that cannot be ignored. According to some estimates, 99 per cent mobile threats target Android devices. Despite its stringent monitoring of the App Store, even Apple hasn’t been able to keep the iOS devices a 100 per cent safe. When you find your phone battery draining out quickly or there is a noticeable change in speed and performance of your phone, if the calls or apps keep dropping and crashing or if you just find your phone hanging often, there is reason for concern. Your phone may be a victim of a malware.
So what can you do to protect your phone against these potential attacks? Here are some of the simple things and practices you can adopt to keep your device safe:
  1. Install some easily available mobile security apps like Avira Mobile Security, 360 Security or avast!. These run in the background constantly, monitoring every download and activity on your phone. They not only remove any security threats and malware, but also give you options for increasing the performance of your phone.
  2. Be extremely cautious while downloading apps to ensure that you haven’t reached a fake app. These look real and you may find them performing up to your expectation too, except that they creep into every nook and cranny of your phone, stealing vital information. This is especially frightening knowing that most of the smartphone users use their phone for tasks such as mobile banking or saving identity details. Look for only trusted apps and read the description and reviews before hitting the install button.
  3. Scan for problems regularly, it takes only a few minutes and has a long-term benefit. Be careful with enticing looking mails or links which may well be phishing attacks, just because you aren’t on your PC, doesn’t mean you are immune to these attacks. Think before you click.
By following these simple practices and remaining cautious about what you install on your cell phone and what you allow access to on it, you can make sure that all data and information saved remain protected.

1. "Work up" to your heaviest weight instead of using a pyramid.
Do several warm-up sets with low reps that prepare you to lift your heaviest on your last few sets. That way, you'll have energy for those sets — the most crucial ones for strength gains. Say you're planning to squat with 300 pounds for five reps. You could do 135 pounds for six reps, 185 for five, 225 for three, 275 for two, and then 300 for five. By the time you get to the 300 set, you'll be thoroughly warmed up but not fatigued.

Watch This: How to get a six pack and strong body

2. Visualize every rep before you do the set.
Imagine how it will feel, where your eyes will be focused, and how you'll breathe. Doing so will make you more "familiar" with how the set will be done, and it will seem easier.

3. Rest three to five minutes between sets.
To lift your hardest, your body needs to regenerate as much ATP — the fuel source for muscle contractions — as possible. Take the time to feel fully recovered before you attempt any personal record on a lift.

4. Work on your weak points.
If you can't lock out your elbows on the bench press, try setting the safety rails in a power rack at about your sticking point on the lift. Put roughly 100 pounds more than your one-rep maximum weight on the bar and then try to press it — naturally, you won't be able to move the bar but try hard anyway for six to 10 seconds. Do four to six reps, resting a few seconds in between, and then lighten the load to the weight you usually have trouble locking out. Your central nervous system should now be sufficiently fired up for you to lift it.

5. Train with someone stronger than you.
Even if you have to invite the biggest animal in the gym to spot you, having someone around who inspires (or intimidates) you will always make you up your intensity.

6. Load the bar with small plates.
It makes the bar look lighter. Your brain won't register it as heavy. That mental advantage can help you lift heavier or do more reps.

7. Go barefoot or wear Converse Chuck Taylors.
The less material there is between your feet and the floor when you lift, the more muscle your body can activate. It's also better for leverage on moves like the deadlift (you'll shorten the distance the bar has to travel). If you train at home or in a hardcore gym, lose the shoes. (If your gym requires footwear, thin-soled sneakers like Chucks are ideal.)

8. Warm up your rotator cuff before any pressing exercise.
Take a two to four-pound medicine ball and push it into a wall with one hand, keeping your arm straight. Roll the ball around on the wall (push hard so it doesn't slip), tracing the alphabet. Do two sets on each arm, and then do your pressing. Firing up the rotator cuff increases the stability in your shoulders.

9. Do box jumps in your warm-up for leg days.
Do three sets of three reps, resting 60 seconds between each set. Explosive exercises wake up the central nervous system to recruit maximum muscle.

10. Try a few glute bridges before deadlifting.
Lie on your back on the floor with your knees bent and feet close to your butt. Dig your heels into the floor and bridge up with your hips, focusing on the contraction in your glutes. Do two sets of eight to 10 reps. Preactivating the glutes — the prime movers in a proper deadlift — allows them to fire at their fullest.
11. Squeeze your glutes on every lift.
Tightness through your hips leads to increased stability everywhere and will let you put up more weight immediately on any exercise. In other words, you can, in fact, pull a new record "out of your ass."

12. Hold on to an ice pack for one to two minutes before lifting.
It's like a cold shower for your nervous system, awakening your senses.
13. Use lifting chalk.

Magnesium carbonate (not the same stuff you used in school to write a sentence 100 times on the blackboard) keeps your hands dry for a superstrong grip. Like the weight belt, it can help you instantly up your max.

14. Warm up with a heavier weight than your work set.
Do your last warm-up set with a heavier weight than what you plan to use in your first work set. Do fewer reps than what you will do on the work set, too. Using the heavier weight in the warm-up will help you recruit extra muscle mass for the work set.

15. Wear a weight belt.
A lifting belt will help support your lower back on deadlifts, squats, and presses. You can increase your max by tens of pounds just by strapping one on.

16. Try a hook grip.
Grab the bar overhand as usual but wrap your thumbs around it first. Then wrap your fingers over your thumbs. Reinforcing the thumb with the strength of your other fingers gives you a much better grip. It's a great way to lift heavier without using straps, which don't let your grip muscles work hard.

17. Push your belly out during a squat or deadlift.
Take a deep breath from your diaphragm so that your stomach swells outward. (If your shoulders rise, you took the breath into your lungs.) If you're wearing a weight belt, push your gut into the belt so it feels very tight. Inflating your abdomen increases core stability. Do this on sets of five reps or fewer for an immediate strength increase of at least 10%.

18. Go heavy.
Before you curl, load the bar with 20% more weight than what you can lift for five reps. Cheat curl the bar to the top position and hold for two seconds, tensing every muscle. Take four seconds to lower the bar down. Rest one minute, then do your normal set of curls. The load you're about to lift will feel lighter.

19. When bench-pressing, drive your heels into the floor.
Actively trying to force your body backward on the bench helps turn the lift into a full-body exercise, and it'll feel easier.

20. If the bar isn't coming up evenly during a lift...
(as in the bench or shoulder press), or one side begins to sink, squeeze the bar on the lagging side as hard as you can. You'll send a message to the nervous system, and it will increase strength on that side.

21. Do two or three sets of the plank as a warm-up.
Get into pushup position and then rest your forearms on the floor. Hold it for 20 to 30 seconds each. You'll wake up your core, which will better support your lifts.

WATCH THIS: How to Gain Weight>>>

22. Take a deep breath after you lift the bar out of the rack on a bench press.
Now hold it for your first two reps if you can. By not exhaling too soon, you won't lose your tight position early in the set. This takes a little practice, so avoid it if you're a beginner.

23. Keep your wrists straight during a pressing lift.
The heavier the weight gets, the more you may have a tendency to let your wrists roll back, but don't. Keeping them straight is a more natural and stable position that will allow you to complete the lift more easily. If you can't keep them straight, work on your grip strength.

24. Perform a "dynamic" warm-up instead of jogging on a treadmill or pedaling a bike.
Do bodyweight lunges, throwing exercises, or jumps — any movement in which you move your joints through a full range of motion. It will better prepare you to lift than just breaking a sweat with light cardio because it warms your muscles and joints while also prepping the central nervous system to lift heavy.

WATCH THIS: How to Ice an Injury

25. Squeeze the bar hard for three to five seconds.
Let go and rest for three to five seconds, and then begin your set. Squeezing the bar (it also works on dumbbells) forces that tight feeling everywhere in your body and reminds you to stay tight during the lift.

Range Rover Evoque-rivalling 4x4 to spearhead DS model range expansion

Citroen’s DS sub-brand will add two prestige saloons and a 4x4 to its range in the next few years.
It recently confirmed that it will remove all Citroen badging from its current cars as part of a strategy of moving the DS brand upmarket. However, the three new models will also see it double the size of its range.
The 4x4 is likely to arrive first, in 2016, and will borrow ideas from the DS Wild Rubis concept shown at the 2013 Shanghai motor show.
It will be followed by a small saloon that Citroen sources describe as “radically styled”, and a slightly more conservative flagship model that’s expected to be a rival to the Audi A6, BMW 5-series and Mercedes E-class.
Before any of that, the DS5 will be given a mid-life face-lift and rebranded as a DS rather than a Citroen DS, with the new-look car being unveiled at next year’s Geneva show in March. The DS4 will get the same treatment in autumn 2015, and the DS3 in late 2015 or early 2016.
Despite the rebrand, Citroen and DS models will continue to be sold at the same dealerships for the foreseeable future, much as Toyota and Lexus models are. However, in the long-term, DS also plans to have standalone, flagship showrooms in the world’s 160 largest cities.

I will show you some diy present ideas to give to your family and friends at any special occasion. They are all really easy to personalize and I hope they can inspire you so let’s start!

To make your own clay accessories you will need: some cornstarch, White glue, vaseline, oil, and some acrylic paint or nail polish.

The first thing I wanted to make was a dust plug, so I took some broken headphones and remove the rubber part. I also cut the tip. This took me a while so I recommend buying some plastic plugs if you can.

To make the clay mix a teaspoon and a half of cornstarch with a teaspoon and a half of white glue, a tiny bit of vaseline and a tiny bit of oil. Mix it well until it has a sticky texture. Put it on a pot with hot water and heat it until it thickens and completely sticks to the spoon. Now it’s time to create any shape you want. I decided to make a bear, so I made a big ball and then cut a smaller one in half to make the ears. Then I made a hole to glue the plug later. I also made a cat by making a ball and pinching the top part to make the ears. In this case I made a little hook with some wire to hang it later. Then let them dry for three days.

Once they are hard it’s time to paint them, you can use acrylic paint or nail polish. I painted one of the bears like korilakkuma, the other one I painted it like a cute panda, and I painted a cute face to the cat. I finished them with some top coat.

I made three different accessories: the first bear I attached it to a keychain. Then I put my plug on my phone, add a tiny bit of glue to the top and attached the panda to make a dust plug, and the cat I attached it to a long chain to make a necklace. There are tons of different accessories you can make with this clay so it’s the easiest gift to personalize.

For the second idea you will need: some cardboard, some cardstock, two book rings, pictures, and scrapbook supplies.
To make this mini album you will need to cut two squares of cardboard to make the cover and some cardstock squares of the same size for the pages. First make some holes, making sure that each page has the holes at the same place. For this use the first page as a guide. You can decorate the cover however you want. I for example stick a piece of silver wrapping paper, then I use some transferable letters for the title, but you can print them too. And finally I glue some scrapbook flower and rhinestone stickers.

For the inside I just stick my pictures and decorate them with some washi tape. Finally I just place the rings and that’s it! This gift is super personal and also really easy to personalize.

The next one is an edible gift and is really easy to make, you will need: dark chocolate, white chocolate, some pistachios, raisins and walnuts.

The first step is melting your chocolate putting a pot with hot water and a glass with your chocolate inside. Once it’s melted pour it onto some foil or wax paper and spread it until you have an even layer. Melt the white chocolate too and mix it with the dark chocolate as I’m doing here to create a marble effect.

Then place your dried fruits and nuts. I chose pistachios, raisins and walnut but you can use any dried fruit and nuts you want. Push them a little bit with a spoon and let it set in fridge for 30 minutes. Then you can break it and place in a jar, and I decided to decorate the jar with a little tag and a bow. This gift is super easy, it looks really nice and the best part it tastes awesome.

The last idea is a really cute little detail and you will need: some tea lights, washi tape, ribbon and cellophane wrap.
First line the little candles with your washi tape as I’m doing here, stack them and wrap them in cellophane. Finally I made a bow for decoration. I know this gift is not a big thing, but I thinks is the perfect stocking stuffer and it’s a beautiful way to give candles without spending a lot of money.

This video has been jointly produced by the Department of Health and the British Embassy in Madrid to explain how to use the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) in Spain. The EHIC can only be used in public hospitals. It entitles the cardholder to any medically necessary treatment that cannot wait until they return home.
